DAS Plein Air ~ at Paper Mill Lock, Little Baddow, Essex – 20 June 2026
Our latest plein air outing was another enjoyable and well-attended event, with members making the most of a beautiful location and glorious weather throughout.
This was a new venue for the group, suggested by one of our members, and it proved to be an excellent choice. There was no shortage of inspiration, with the canal, colourful houseboats, surrounding countryside and local wildlife all providing a wide variety of subjects to paint and sketch. The site was also bustling with activity, including canoeists, kayakers, walkers and visitors, adding to the vibrant atmosphere.
Members gathered for coffee on arrival before finding their chosen viewpoints, and several enjoyed lunch together later in the day. The tearooms proved very popular, serving a varied menu with plenty of choice, including delicious sandwiches and cakes.
Some artists stayed well into the afternoon to continue working, making the most of both the glorious weather and the beautiful surroundings.
The photographs show a selection of the work produced, ranging from finished paintings to sketches, works in progress and studies for future pieces. The combination of excellent weather, varied subject matter and good company made for a thoroughly enjoyable visit.
The popularity of the venue confirmed that it is well worth revisiting, and we are sure it will feature on our plein air programme again in the future.
