Shelagh Baxter
I discovered a love of drawing and painting later in life after many years teaching science in secondary schools, then retraining in psychotherapy to work as a counsellor with young people.
Learning to paint helps me to look more closely at the world around me. I feel most inspired by the many effects on light on the landscape and on water and try to capture some essence of these in my work.
I started painting with soft pastels and more recently have been experimenting with acrylics, oils and mixed media. I am trying to find ways to paint more freely and develop interesting textures.
Until recently, I lived in Oxfordshire and exhibited regularly with Oxfordshire Art Weeks and Faringdon and other local art societies. I joined Dedham Art Society soon after moving to Lawford in 2023 and enjoy the wide variety of activities and the opportunity to paint alongside a lovely group of talented artists.
