DAS Saturday Plein Air Group ~ Saturday 19th April 2025 - Wivenhoe Park

We had a great turnout yesterday for our plein air meet-up at Wivenhoe Park, which sits within the University of Essex grounds and is also home to the lovely Wivenhoe House. It’s a beautiful spot with a bit of art history too—John Constable once painted the park, so we were in good company.

We met at 10am and, after a bit of catching up, everyone headed off to find their view. Some were drawn to the lakes and the variety of trees around them, while others focused on the sweeping fields, the university’s modernist buildings, or the more classic charm of Wivenhoe House itself.

It stayed dry and mild—just right for a few hours of painting outdoors. We regrouped at 1:30pm to see what everyone had been working on, and a few of us stayed on a bit longer to keep painting or tweak our pieces.

All in all, a really enjoyable day with good weather, good company, and lots of inspiration.
