DAS Plein Air ~ 24 July 2025 - Munnings Museum

Dedham Art Society at @munnings_art_museum

Our members gathered at 10am for a plein air painting day at the beautiful Munnings Art Museum in Dedham, Essex.

The weather was a bit drizzly with some dry spells, but thankfully there was a marquee for shelter—and the typical British summer didn’t dampen our spirits!

Some members grabbed a coffee @tearoom_munnings_art_museum before heading off to find a spot to paint in the peaceful grounds of Castle House - once the home of Sir Alfred Munnings and now a museum dedicated to his work.

At around midday, we paused to visit the new exhibition A Long, Glittering Line, featuring Munnings’ impressive State Procession to Ascot, painted in 1925 for Queen Mary. It’s currently on loan from His Majesty The King and displayed alongside Munnings’ original sketches and notes—fascinating to see up close.

After the tour, we regrouped and carried on with our painting. There was a lovely, relaxed atmosphere throughout the day, and our members produced some beautiful work.

All in all, a really enjoyable visit to one of our favourite local museums—thank you to @munningsartmuseum for having us!
