Margaret Glass workshop -Fri 15 October , 2026

DAS members were treated to a return visit by reknowned local professional  pastel artist Margaret Glass today.

Margaret gave a stage by stage demonstration in pastels of the perenially popular subject of the River Orwell at Pin Mill, sharing her approach to working from dark to light and layering warm and cool colours to create vibrancy and depth.

She also demonstrated her own aptly named mark making techniques including the rather noisy "woodpecker" technique. The absorbing presentation was accompanied by a series of amusing anecdotes from Margaret's long career as a professional artist.

Around 15 members painted in stages guided by Margaret. Although we were all working on the same photograph and with the colours advised we were astonished and delighted to see the variety of work created. Grateful thanks go to the organisers of this event.
