Elise Wilson
Elise played an important role within the society in its early years. She joined in the 1970’s soon after moving to Colchester in 1971 and subsequently served on the committee. Elise was an active and enthusiastic member of the society for many years often leading sessions in the studio as well as hosting members' activities at her home in Abberton.
A primary school teacher and graduate of RADA (1945), Elise wasn’t afraid to experiment with multimedia or geometric shapes and was particularly interested in roofscape views. Having attended the Southend School of Art in the 1940s, she painted principally in oils under the name of Elise Ramuz and enjoyed painting still lives and en plein air. Some of her latter years were spent in Spain where she spent many hours painting or sketching Andalusian landscapes. Her work always seemed fresh and live.
